From Rich Lupia, owner and founder of Upstate Snow, I hope all is well wherever you are now.
Welcome back! It’s been a spring, summer (and for many YEAR) we’d all like to forget for a whole host of reasons. But it’s getting colder, we’ve already had the first frost and freeze early this year, and by the first weekend of October foliage in the Adirondacks and Catskills will be near or past peak with chilly near or below freezing air to greet us (See 850mb map on featured image). Blue indicates 850 mb temps (height of the high peaks) at or below freezing… usually translating to near freezing conditions at the ground level.
Snowmobile season (and winter) is coming despite the world going crazy around us. Here it is business as usual with some new upgrades and features to talk about. Here’s what’s new for the 2020-21 season:
– The “Morning Blogs”, among the most popular features on this site, will continue as normal, and will be driven by weather events between October and May.
– A brand new “Quick Look” will be added this year. This will go out daily starting in later October on the site, and on Facebook as well. These will be in the morning, generally on days without the longer daily blogs, that will have a quick general forecast for Upstate NY and brief details on what we are watching in the medium range: 3-7 days and long range: 7-14 days
– The trail talk podcast will start season two in October! Trail talk will focus on issues, people and stories in the snowmobiling world.
– The Guide to your ride podcast will focus on trail work opportunities prior to the start of this season, and during the season, updated from the clubs on trail conditions and best places to ride each weekend. Guide to your ride co-hosted by Chris Rinck, President of Southern Tug Hill Sno-Riders.
To look back at season 1 of Trail Talk and Guide to your ride (and to take a walk down memory lane prior to COVID-19, click here
– There are a few more surprises we will announce in the coming weeks as well. Still working out the details.
We will make the most of whatever snow, and riding opportunities we can, just like we have since 2012.
THANK YOU so much for your loyal support of Upstate Snow!
