October 30, 2024 – Upstate Snow, one of NY’s largest snowmobile websites for over a decade, is announcing changes to its leadership and future development.
Zachary Lupia, 21 years of age, has been chosen to take over Upstate Snow and its operations effective today. This means myself, Rich Lupia, whom has held this role from 2012-2014 and again from 2019-2024, is stepping down. Zachary will gradually become more involved in the operations of Upstate Snow and will ultimately have the chance to return to NY and to ride. “I just can’t wait to get back there and ride, that will be the ultimate” said Zach. While no rides are planned at this time, keep your eyes open late January or in February of 2025. If we get big snows, that is when he could come back to Upstate New York. Riding is Zachary’s passion, just as much as it is for myself. If there is big snow, he’ll get it!
The Morning Blog I will still do. The snowfall maps during the season, I will still do. The winter weather outlooks this Friday, November 15th and December 1st I will still do. What will Zack do? He will be a different face on Upstate Snow. His personality will lead him in different directions. The fact he is in his early 20s with almost all his life ahead of him, who knows where he takes this site! If anything I would expect him to truly strengthen relationships with many of the clubs. That is where I feel he can do his best.
He is not a Meteorologist. That’s my line and has been my line for almost 3 decades now. His line will be different for certain.

Now the weather for October 30 and 31, 2024… near record to record highs through Halloween. If anything, Halloween will feel like a mid summer day. How bad? 75 to 80 degrees over most of the state tomorrow! You know this time of year it does not last. A strong cold front brings rain Halloween Night and into Friday morning. Another thing you get to look forward to on Friday: Winter Weather Outlook! At least my first look at it. For now. November 15 and December 1 I will have adjustments, if any.
Things I wanted you guys to think about: Last time much of the nation, particularly the Southeast US was this bone dry in fall was in 2000. The winter of 2000-01 was EPIC. It was one of the biggest winters we ever had. That 74 record high for Halloween? That was in 2003-04. That was also an EPIC year for snow with January 2004 ending up under 10 degrees F for the entire month. The normal is 21 degrees. So with that being the case, I believe that’s a top 5 all time coldest month going back into the 1800’s.
Going back to a winter like 2003-04, I remember riding in January 2004. It was so cold I could not ride many days! The snow was so deep I got stuck in Holland Patent by the High School. For over two hours! Memories of rides I have done. Thousands upon thousands of miles I have rode. Praise and thank you God for all I have been able to do over these years.
