Winter Weather Advisories up for a lot of Upstate NY this afternoon and tonight. The snow showers streaking across the state today, will turn by tonight with the associated cold front swinging through, to rain/mixed precipitation then back to snow depending on elevation, since the storm is passing to our north and west. It will make travel this evening through morning commute for New Years Eve a little slick. Most of Upstate will see 1″ to 2″ with higher elevations, especially south of Buffalo, in the winter weather advisory areas and over the Tug Hill and Adirondacks getting 2-5 inches of snow with some ice mixed in.
Quiet weather to ring in 2021 then another storm system passes to the north and west. Snow to mix to rain then back to snow. We could see similar snow totals across Upstate NY with this system too.
The rest of the weekend into next week looks quiet with normal temperatures.
Still looking at the major warmup across most of the US and Canada next week. Long term patterns continue to be non-favorable for cold and snow at this time.
Limited locations on the Tug Hill and Old Forge are open to riding at this time. Please check with clubs first, DO NOT TRESSPASS ON CLOSED TRAILS AND OR CLOSED TRAIL SYSTEMS, and hope for better weather later in January 2021.
