Hey there! I hope you all have had a very Merry Christmas and got what you wanted! Maybe a new sled?
It is very cold. There is snow on the ground over much of Upstate NY. Of course we can’t ride anywhere near or south of the Thruway until next week, and things will be much different then. In the meantime I have very simple advice for you:
GET OUT AND ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN
Seriously. Today will be awesome! Tomorrow will be good but not as great as today. This weekend, with temperatures pushing into the 40s and with rain moving on in, plus it being a holiday weekend with everyone and their grandmother on the trails, I would expect trails to be turned to mud and muck over the weekend. Even in the Tug Hill where over 100″ of snow has fallen so far. Even over the Adirondacks. As we approach New Year’s, temperatures will start to come down, but between everyone trying to ride what is out there, there will be little to nothing left to ride.
THE LONGER RANGE HOLDS HOPE. JUST NOT RIGHT AWAY.
The longer range in the 6-10 day still remains warm and above freezing heading into the first days of 2025. The 8-14 days looking deeper into 2025, in particular the first full week of 2025, this is showing more promise of temperatures back to near normal. With it being January, average temperatures are below freezing all the time now with the exception of the lowest elevations of the Capital Region and Hudson Valley. Not many trails there anyway. Pray that snow events return, we build the base back up over the first two weeks of January and get back to riding! Then once we do so, we can hold on to this base into March! At least that is the plan.
