Today is 10/24/24. This is a definite remembrance day for me because 19 years ago today, in 2005, I took my first job that I truly wanted beyond Meteorology. That started three years with them, followed by 1-4 years with each step afterwards basically until my stroke in 2022. I have been sitting dormant since then, but I have a major announcement on that. It’s not here and it’s not yet. In the coming days I will have that important announcement, probably before Halloween. Please continue to pray for me on this. While this is fun, it is also not fun.
So speaking of not fun, the weather the last week has been not fun. Especially the last three days with summer like temperatures from the mid 70s to the low 80s. This time of year, that is near record territory. We didn’t hit any records that I knew of but we were close. Back to reality through this weekend. For sure. Then next week the next big surge of warmth comes at us. We challenge records middle to end of next week again, as we approach Halloween. Now on Halloween itself, 74 is the record in Utica/Rome. That has a legitimate shot, even at Day 8. So for a snow and snowmobile website, why am I mentioning this?
Anyone remember the winter of 2003-2004? That was one of the more OLD FASHIONED winters. In January of 2004, we could not even reach an average temperature of 10 degrees F! That was only one of 3 or 4 months in HISTORY to do that! Am I saying we are going to have a bad harsh winter? No. Am I saying we are not going to have much winter like the last 6 years? No. All I am saying is this: We are about to enter the definite phase that will truly determine how winter goes. The entire winter. Watch very closely between now and December 1st. Those clues will go big into determining what we get.
But for now, enjoy the mild weather the rest of this week, and the return of fall warmth next week. Who knows what we will see!
