Good morning from the mountains of Tennessee where I will be today and tomorrow. Do not even talk to me about the Bills game last night. I am still so upset. For the first time in over 40 years, I will probably not watch any of the Super Bowl in 2 weeks. For the first time in over 40 years. Seriously.
Back to the weather and back to the snow because we have some in the forecast! I wish I could get my forecast maps to work but from Tennessee… NO DICE! At least this is an easier general forecast rather than the more localized lake effect snow!
WIND ADVISORIES AND HIGH WIND WARNINGS ARE UP FOR PARTS OF THE STATE TODAY AND TONIGHT. If you are in an area that is open to Southwest winds, you can expect winds of 30-60 MPH today and tonight. In all other areas of the state expect winds not as strong, but still windy at 20-40 MPH.
General snows move through overnight and into the morning rush hours tomorrow morning. This will be enough to cause slick spots and slowdowns tomorrow morning, but not enough for all out warnings or anything like that. Most areas should see 1-3 inches.
General snows return once again Tuesday Night and through a good part of Wednesday. These will also come with more wind as well. In this case, I would expect closer to 3-5 inches of snow. This would put it into the Winter Weather Advisory range. While it is not up yet, keep an eye out for this later today, if not by tonight.
What was shown earlier as a brief but huge surge of bitter cold air, now is not looking as bad. Instead of highs in the teens Thursday and Friday, we are looking more like 20s and 30s. In fact on Friday, there is a chance some rain could mix in with temperatures rising far enough above freezing, especially in the lower elevations.
The weekend is looking not as warm but with near normal temperatures and actually some sunshine around. For a change! We start a new month on Saturday and actually start off halfway decent. January 2025 will easily go down as the coldest month since January 2018. It may make Top 10 coldest in many parts of the state but not all. Just because nearly every day of this month has been at or below normal. Some days, way below normal. Given the fact we have not had a ton of below zero nights, but only a handful of them, that really helps our cause here.
I have been here in Tennessee since Saturday afternoon. It is always a fun time up here! If you have not been here at least once in your life, I highly suggest you come down to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville. You will be glad you did!
