HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM UPSTATE SNOW! AND WE HAVE GOT A TON OF SNOW FOR YOU.
Just take a look at this. It’s the updated snow map through 7 AM Saturday 1/4. This doesn’t even add up what additional snow is expected over the weekend. And I am just telling you, off of Lake Ontario in particular, 10-30 may be LOW. There are some models going way more that that. Some have gone as high as 5 feet or 60 inches through Sunday 1/5. I won’t go that high, especially after the colossal meltdown we just had and the fact we are starting from scratch.
Snow, heavy at times takes over all of Upstate NY by tonight and into tomorrow morning. A good portion of the accumulations on the snowfall map is scheduled over the next 24 hours. Heading into Thursday afternoon and Thursday night, these snowfalls become more localized.
Snow, heavy at times, continues downwind of Lake Erie and in particular, Lake Ontario, with feeder bands extending well into Canada. With the deeper cold air and multi lake connections, this has me worried my 10-30 off of Lake Ontario may be low in some areas. I just have a growing bad feeling about this. We will see and if I need to up it even further, I will.
The snow becomes lighter and more localized with much less accumulation over the weekend. Still several inches? Yes, locally that will probably happen. But after Saturday morning, I am expecting most of the double digit accumulations to have happened. At least, that is how I am seeing it now. Nervously.
Sunshine returns early next week along with COLD. The storm to the south and west of Upstate NY will create major news in the Ohio Valley, Tennessee Valley, Mid-Atlantic and the Southeast US. How far south the rain/snow line gets is still a huge question. Does it make it as far south as my location in South Carolina? Maybe? Probably not right now, but boy it will be a close call.
Don’t even look at this if you want any kind of warmth. Anytime soon. You are looking after a few days, especially next week, highs in the teens. Lows near to below zero most nights. That’s just the 8-14 day. Looking farther ahead, the brutally cold air continues. During the coldest weeks of the year. I am sorry folks. If you want any warmth, and if you got used to me providing consistent news of warmth and snow melting for year after year, at least for now, NO DICE!
