Folks… it’s not looking good at all. High wind warnings and wind advisories today. You already feel the warmth. The wind, rain and warmth will eat the snow like PACMAN today. Near if not record highs today in the 60s. With the winds howling, it would not surprise me if a few locations took a shot at 70. There will be a break tonight and a little bit of a cooldown but it’s going to stay above freezing. Then Monday MONDAY…
I’ve waited on this one, longer than I wanted to, but I’m glad I did. Because the storm center is not going to our south and east. The mix line is blowing through Upstate NY into southern Ontario and Quebec. The actual low will track NORTH of the Ohio Valley into northern Indiana, Ohio, then up the St Lawrence Valley. This means any precip behind the storm Monday night into Tuesday AM will be snow but it will be light. Not anything to help snow cover or trails.
Tuesday below freezing temperatures settle back in but not for long. Middle to end of next week temps during the day look to rocket into the 40s, further enhancing the melting of any leftover snow. The big cooldown is expected next weekend, but again, the storm tracks still keep shifting. It does appear as though, we are done with snowmobile season for much of Upstate NY with the exception of Tug Hill proper, and snow bowls in the Adirondacks and North Country.
Don’t expect to ride today or tomorrow. Most trails are closed anyway. My next morning blog will be on Tuesday. At that point we will assess the damage, see who has what snow left, where, and riding prospects (anywhere) for mid-march and beyond.
It’s not over yet… but if you want 100-200+ mile rides across multiple trail systems with frozen down conditions… in that sense, unless we get hit big next weekend into the following week with cold and snow… the snowmobile season is probably over. We will be here for the die hards and will continue to chase the snow into spring, even if it’s not rideable anymore, until it’s just plain rain. That’s what we do.
Thank you for your support! We’ll see you Tuesday…
