So the higher elevations over 1000′ fared much better than areas lower than 1000′. Tug Hill proper and Old Forge area ended up not as bad as it could have been. There is some riding in these areas in the coming week. Not a lot but it’s something. A lot of areas that were riding last week, are not now. Please respect all trail closures and stick to Tug Hill and Old Forge for now.
The weather this week will be quiet with temperatures close to or a little above seasonal norms. In the areas riding than means near freezing by day, teens at night. Could be worse, but it’s not going to help with preservation of what’s left.
The big question mark is this weekend. We’ve been looking at this for several days. Accu-Weather is hyping it big time. Not sure about others and I don’t care. Let them hype over speculation. WE STILL HAVE TIME.
Last Friday the GFS American model spit out on one run a historic storm off NY Harbor. That was gone next model run. As I will show you below with today’s model runs looking at Sunday, Groundhog Day and Superbowl Sunday, Six days out, there is ANYTHING BUT AGREEMENT from all models. They are about as all over the place as you can get.
Bottom Line: It’s going to be a few days before we have some certainty as to what will or will not happen. Please don’t share or believe any wild “snowmageddon” or worst case scenario. Please give us time to let the models come into better agreement, for Meteorologists like me, your local TV Meteorologists and the National Weather Service to weigh in.
We have time.
