Hello Upstate Snow Nation! WE ARE BACK IN SOUTH CAROLINA! Boy did we have a crazy trip to Upstate NY and back. And the weather scared us out of there on Saturday with Winter Storm Warnings pretty much all the way up and down the coast between NY and SC. So we made the 13 1/2 hour drive yesterday. We avoided all traffic. The drive was excellent and we are fine today. So here is the next snow:
This snow is lake effect. Again. This time with bitter cold. Again. Only this time the bitter cold is going to be the worst since 2018. When it has been 7 years since we have seen this type of cold around, and you finally see it, it is a shock.
Here are the lake effect snows that will be moving on in, generally with a west to west-southwest wind flow. It will be close enough to hit Watertown and Buffalo. Especially Buffalo and its south towns with heavy snow. And then the extreme cold hits hard. It hits hardest Tuesday Night and Wednesday Morning. This is when double digit below zero reading come about. Will it hit -16 on Tuesday? Probably not but it will be close. Will it hit -20 on Wednesday? Probably not but we won’t be that far away either. And that -20 on Wednesday? That is the the record from 2018, and the last time Utica has recorded a -20 or colder temperature. So the coldest since 2018, but not quite to that level.
Then temperatures recover slowly over the rest of the week. By next weekend, temperatures have returned to normal with highs near 30 and lows in the teens. Above zero! Returning to normal weather will actually be a welcome treat!
WHAT HAPPENED IN NEW YORK?
A ton happened in New York. So much did. We are so sorry we could not update you on any of it. Even though here in South Carolina it’s 2025, in Upstate NY, particularly the areas in which we need to stay, it is 1995 internet. Seriously. It is. With the dial up internet speeds that still exist where we stay. That makes updating impossible. That is definitely a challenge going forward. The ride on Thursday was one of a kind. But it destroyed me. Friday we were knocked out of it, compared to how we usually are. Saturday we was able to get back to South Carolina. Sunday, today, we are OK.
There is so much to tell you about the trip. So much to sort out. So much to figure out what we do next. That we will take hours for and will give it to you later this afternoon or tomorrow. Not tonight because of the Buffalo game. GO BILLS!
