After a nice hit of snow, we have wrap around, lake enhanced and some lake effect to go. It will add to the totals and be shovelable/plowable snow but it will not be as big of a wallop that came through in the last 12-18 hours. This is the back side of the storm, these snows tend to be more off and on, with some heavy bursts at times. I had debated whether or not to make the 2-5 a 2-4, but I decided to hold a 5 out there. Same thing immediately near the lakes… I’m aiming higher this time. Expect this snow to taper off some after sunset, and become more localized after midnight. Most of this snow on the map will fall between Noon and 8 PM today. Just a heads up if you are reading this later.
Tuesday will be a much colder day with clouds giving way to sunshine, lake snows diminishing in the morning and some decent sun in the afternoon. The temperatures will bottom out Tuesday evening before rising heading into Wednesday morning with increasing clouds and a burst of light snow, mainly along and north of the Thruway. This will be a quick dusting to 2″ along the Thruway corridor to 2-4 across the Tug Hill, Adirondacks and North Country. I’ll probably put a map out on this tomorrow morning.
Temperatures on Wednesday will soar, relatively speaking, into the 20s, with at or above freezing for the lower elevations and cities. This warmup, relatively speaking, will be brief. If you don’t like the bitter cold, please savor Wednesday. Wednesday night into Thursday morning, another arctic front blasts through with a quick flare up of lake effect snow Wednesday night, pushing south and east of the lakes, particularly Lake Ontario. Thursday will be bitter cold, Friday morning we wake up at or below zero across most of Upstate NY, then rise into the single digits and teens under a 1035 high overhead with some decent sunshine. The cold and snow, along with the additional coming Wednesday, should set the stage for the end of this week and this weekend to be the best snowmobiling weekend by far across Upstate NY. A lot of Western NY will be open, a lot of CNY, especially south of the Thruway will be open, and we will be going strong all across the Tug Hill, Adirondacks and North Country. What we’ve been waiting for all winter long… is finally HERE!
Another cold front/clipper with some light snows followed by modest lake effect snow will roll through over the weekend. The trend going into next week remains COLD. So if you’ve been waiting for better conditions to ride, the time is NOW. GET OUT THERE AND ENJOY IT!
