Lake effect snows will continue through tomorrow across parts of Upstate NY. CNY and the North Country seem to be the most likely areas to get at least a few inches, if not several inches, of snow.
The persistent very cold northwest flow going over those mild Lake Ontario waters will make for the additional snowfalls through tomorrow. I decided not to put up the accumulation map from yesterday because honestly some of that has fallen and Thursday evening is a good end point for that snowfall. So we have out there what we have out there.
Skies actually turn partly sunny on Friday for a change. It will be nice to see the sun in general for all of us for the first time in 2025! Unfortunately, as is typical this time of year, that sunshine does not last for long though.
A low pressure over southern Ontario will move on by just to our north late Friday night and through Saturday morning. This will bring light snows across most of Upstate NY. I can’t tell how much just yet, especially with some lake effect coming in later Saturday and into Sunday in back of it. During the day on Sunday, the lake effect snow wanes.
The next system comes in late Monday and into Tuesday next week with snow showers and the possibility for yet more lake effect after that, otherwise you know what we are looking at: A mostly cloudy to partly sunny sky. Temperatures will remain cold. Highs should be in the teens and 20’s across Upstate NY with overnight lows in the single digits. Some below zero readings are possible across the North Country and the Adirondacks.
That is all I want to dive into the forecast right now. There is some stuff on there beyond 7 days that is tantalizing, but you know me. I would much rather bank on stuff within 84 hours, especially for accumulations, than go way far out and get things all messed up. Now with this 5 day generational to historic lake effect snowfall we just had in some parts of Upstate NY, that didn’t work out too well. Unfortunately that the way we have to roll with things. Even in 2025.
Next week we are coming up to Upstate NY to ride! Myself, Zack (21) and Ariella (12) will make the trip up and back. We will have several days to ride. At least three days. When will we come? It all depends on our southern snowstorm that is about to hit us where we are in South Carolina right now! Later today, for the first time in three years, we will have WINTER STORM WATCHES up for where I live here in South Carolina. They will become warnings tomorrow. Our snowfall amounts continue to go up, and we still have sleet and/or freezing rain mixing in with it. If this turns out to be as bad, if not worse that predicted at this point, the odds of us just breaking loose and heading for Upstate NY sooner are greater. If it is not as bad as they are forecasting, plan on a Tuesday leaving and a Wednesday PM arrival. Next week.
