Sorry about the crazy schedules. With crazy weather comes… crazy schedules!
It is quiet and cold tonight and heading through Wednesday. But Wednesday Night, things begin to turn. Snow, sleet and freezing rain begin to lift north and east out of Pennsylvania into Upstate New York by Thursday Morning at sunrise. It starts off mainly white but as temperatures aloft get above 32 degrees, that is not good.
The worst of the precipitation will be later Thursday Morning into midday, with most of the precipitation sliding mainly along and to the east of I-81. This means the eastern 1/2 of Upstate NY will generally see more than the western half of the state. Here is what I am looking at for snowfall accumulations (with the wintry mix thrown in for fun). I am looking at a 2-5 inch snowfall for the Tug Hill, Adirondacks, and North Country. Along and south of the Thruway, with more sleet and freezing rain mixing in, anywhere from a dusting to maybe an inch or two. Particularly higher up.
PLEASE take your time on Thursday! If you can avoid travel on Thursday that would be a better option for you. The storm and the snow/mix will wind down by Thursday evening with mainly snow showers to continue. On Friday and as well for Saturday, more snow showers will be around with little accumulation expected at this time.
Oh boy, here we go again! Starting Saturday Night and going through Super Bowl Sunday, expect snow, sleet, freezing rain, rain, pretty much about everything. Including the kitchen sink! Another few inches of snow is expected here but still too far to get into specifics.
Next week more general snow showers, squalls, lake effect, sleet, freezing rain, rain, kitchen sinks, and just about anything else mother nature can throw at us will be on the table. Just to let you know. This map in particular is next Thursday 2/13 which is as far out as I am willing to go.
It’s February. And it is acting like it around here. Plenty cold enough north of the Thruway with great snow conditions, good ice on the lakes, and people enjoying the ride. To the Thruway and points south, some places can play, some cannot. I cannot believe how low the season snow total are in the Finger Lakes and Genesee Valley. So much better to the west under the Lake Erie belts. Tug Hill and the Adirondacks having a banner year. But much thinner as you approach I-87 from Plattsburgh to Kingston.
