Good morning Upstate Snow Nation! Well September has been… well… September! It has been the last two weeks about the best weather we have had all summer and all year. Temps in the 70s and 80s each day. No rain. Getting bone dry out there, especially with today being day 12 with zero rainfall. But there is always a weekend in September when people start loading up to Ohio on a Friday. When on Saturday and Sunday, thousands of people descend on the Town of Ohio park for what has become one of the biggest events in the US over the past 30 years. That event is:
SNOW BASH. This has been the standout event that has outlasted all others that has tried to come about to equal it or replace it. This is the gold standard event in Upstate NY. This is the start of the fall season. This is the start of the 2024-25 snowmobile season. Well, kind of.
Before I go more into the event, let me bring you back just a few years to the last time I was actually able to get to a Snow Bash event. This was in 2021. The day before I was in Syracuse because they had a dedication event for the Syracuse Mets. That event was amazing and we did not get home until late that night. Since we drove up from Lynchburg, VA that Friday morning, I had no idea what was about to happen the next morning. Saturday morning I had planned to be up early, to be at Snow Bash early. Until I woke up an saw my car. Tire pressure warning lights are on. One tire is flat. Another one is close to it. I had 25 miles to go to Silver City tire in Oneida to have them fix it. So I ran out there ASAP. With the ton of people ahead of me, it took a few hours, but the repairs were done and the vehicle was back to 100%. I headed straight to Ohio from there, and arrived just at 11 AM. Just as the first drags got flying down the track. That whole afternoon and into the evening when the racing stopped, Zack and I got literally a few hours of footage. I still have that footage. My son Zack has it because it takes up so much dang space, almost 1 TB alone just for one day! I have not shown this footage yet. But I promise you, soon, there will come a time for it. Keep an eye out for that. Seriously. Because that footage goes good anytime of year.
WEATHER OUTLOOK:
The new 6-10 day outlook is out. After we cool off mid to late next week back into the 60s with scattered showers, temperatures will cease dropping, and stay in the 60s and 70s heading through the following weekend into the end of the month.
Not looking much better heading into the first week of October either. It is looking like the warmer than normal temperatures, or most likely at to above normal, will continue rolling on into October. How far does it roll into October? Does it make it to the first weekend? Columbus Day? Beyond that? We will have to wait and see. But we still have plenty of time for that.
To all the thousands heading up to SNOW BASH today, tomorrow and/or Sunday: ENJOY YOURSELVES! Have an awesome time! Be thankful for everything God has blessed you with. Race to win the prize. Enjoy the moments. In the meantime, I will be keeping my eyes on the overall weather pattern heading into fall. When those cold snaps and potential snows start to come up, I will let you know. As the seasons begin in December, I will let you know where you can ride, and it’s everywhere January through March.
Thank you for supporting Upstate Snow!
