Happy New Year from all of us at Upstate Snow! Even all one of me 🙂
We are looking at sunshine and near normal to slightly above normal conditions for today and for tomorrow. With no snow on the ground pretty much anywhere is it even worth it to mention all trails in NYS open tonight?
Next shot at snowfall is Wednesday Night and into Thursday as a weak disturbance moves on by. Models continue to be all over the place on this one. Enough to where I don’t have enough confidence to give you enough for a dusting to 2″ map.
Yikes!
Heading into this weekend it will be cold, perhaps the coldest of the season so far, before the winds turn to the south and blow up a ton of moisture from the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. This happens mostly on Sunday. It’s now Day 6/7, and starting to get into the maybe/maybe not stage. GFS is more aggressive on the storm hitting us today whereas the European was more aggressive on the storm hitting us yesterday. Either way, with it being within a week, there is a growing potential SOMETHING is coming this weekend.
If may only be flakes. It may only be a few inches. It may be a good base building event. Even if we do get double digit snowfall on this storm, which is very much a maybe/maybe not scenario at this point, don’t all go riding at once at the first moment the snow hits the trails. With how soft and unfrozen we are, that would be the worst thing we could do. I would seriously consider the following weekend, MLK Weekend, before starting Snowmobile Season 2024. Trust me, you’ll thank me later.
And the models are going better each day with more of an active, colder, and stormier pattern the second half of January. More on that later today. Just saying… it’s getting closer to the time to ride! Enjoy your 3-6 weeks of riding!
And Happy New Year!
