MAJOR UPDATE: FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THREE YEARS, UPSTATE SNOW RETURNS TO UPSTATE NY TO RIDE! WE ARE LEAVING SOUTH CAROLINA THIS AFTERNOON AND WILL ARRIVE IN UPSTATE NY LATE TOMORROW. THURSDAY AND FRIDAY ARE THE MAIN RIDE DAYS. SATURDAY MORNING IS OPTIONAL. WE THEN SPEND THE REST OF THE WEEKEND COMING HOME.
So if you are in the Mohawk Valley, particularly northern Oneida County, central or northern Herkimer County, Lewis County or eastern Oswego County, be warned, WE ARE COMING! If you are out there during these times riding and come across a group of riders, particularly with a few TWO UP sleds (HINT), it just could be us! Please say hello!
You know what else is coming just in time for our arrival? More lake effect snow! Some of that snow will be HEAVY! Here is a look at updated accumulations:
The worst of the snow happens over the next 24 hours. There will be some snow left heading into Wednesday and early Thursday but not that much as winds shift, and temperatures begin to rise. But before then, snow, heavy at times will hit downwind of Lake Erie and particularly Lake Ontario. Once the snow lets up Thursday AM, expect a general light snow later Thursday PM and into Thursday Night. Since the snow will be general and associated with warm air advection, accumulations will be light on that. Friday should be dry during the day and into the first part of Saturday, we should be in for 36 hours of a dry period with mostly cloudy to partly sunny skies by day and variably cloudy at night.
Once we hit the weekend, this is where things change. There has been a lot of back and forth on this, more than usual out of the models. Even as we are approaching the 84 hour mark for the high resolution models to kick in, there is more disagreement than usual with this storm. xxxxx
Then afterwards next week it turns COLD. By cold I mean COLD! Temperatures will fall BELOW ZERO almost everywhere in Upstate NY at some point next week. That is nearly a guarantee. Highs will be in the single digits and teens. Yes there is more stuff popping up out there but beyond day 7, you know what I am going to say about it (NO)!
OK, so enjoy whatever snow we get, PLEASE be careful riding on this snow. Especially since it is a lot deeper than usual on some trails. And enjoy yourselves as best as you can! I am on my way up!
