It will be quiet through today and part of tomorrow. But starting tomorrow PM and going through Thursday, another lake effect snow event is in the works. Here is the look through Tuesday 7 PM
It remains quiet for most of today and for at least the first part of tomorrow. Then we have big changes coming in. A cold front with much colder air (from 30’s to teens/around 20) comes on through Upstate NY during the day tomorrow. Behind it starting tomorrow night and going through the mid-week it will be cold. It will turn snowy downwind of Lake Erie and particularly Lake Ontario. The lake effect snows will become heavy at times, especially Tuesday, Wednesday and even into Thursday before this event settles down. Here are the maps below to prove what we are talking about:
Heading into Friday we actually get to see some sunshine again and temperatures start to rise. We get into the 25-30 range across most of Upstate NY then, colder to the north and milder with near freezing conditions to the south. Then heading into next weekend, we have this to worry about, Check this out for next Sunday 1/19:
This is the current track of the system next weekend and into MLK day which is 8 days away. So we still have plenty of time to track and hone in this forecast. It is showing the best chance for snows in the Southern Tier, Central NY, Catskills, Capital Region and the Hudson Valley. Even heavier snows are indicated for Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the NYC area. In the meantime, enjoy the lake effect snows during the week downwind of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario!
