Lake effect snows will wind down today. Locally you could see a few additional inches.
One thing about the weather right now: It’s brutal! It is cold. It is windy. It is snowing. It feels like we are in Antarctica! Or even in the Arctic? I’m not sure which. All I know is that the snow showers and minor bands of lake effect that will be there right now will fade out this afternoon. It should fade out given how windy it is! Tonight will be a very cold and windy night with air temperatures not far from zero and with the winds, it feels like -20! YIKES! Tomorrow we will see a break in the action with a mostly sunny day! This is truly the first in 2025 we have seen of that. But while you are enjoying the sunshine on Friday, remember, millions of folks in the Southeast US… WILL NOT BE!
Winter Storm Watches are up for Friday and Friday Night for most of the Southeast with snow, sleet and freezing rain expected across the Upstate of South Carolina (where I live), northern Georgia, and western/central North Carolina. At least a few inches of accumulation here, which will turn this nice southern area into a HELLSCAPE! BREAD AND MILK!
Now, back to Upstate NY and Friday Night into Saturday…
General light snows with a trough moving through will create a general few inches of snow. There will be some lake effect behind this later Saturday PM and into Saturday Night, but not a whole lot. Then it stays mostly cloudy heading through the rest of the weekend and into early next week. Temperatures actually hold near normal for a few days!
The next storm system moves in middle of next week with more light snows. Hard to say on accumulations at this point in time, however, I will say a few inches of accumulations are possible. Still several days out on that one so just keep it here to see if it goes up or down as time approaches.
This is next weekend, the 18th. This is 9 days away. This has been showing a bigger snow event for Upstate NY. I have no idea if we will see this MLK weekend of not. Just letting you know what good stuff the models are playing with. Whether it happens or not is anyone’s guess.
