Some more lake effect is around today. Even more tomorrow and into Thursday. Here are the numbers:
The lake effect with the below normal temperatures continuing non-stop is the driving force behind whatever snow is out there. If it wasn’t for Lake Ontario and/or Lake Erie, how much less snow we would have! And we would not have just experienced a generational to historic snowfall for some parts of Upstate NY.
Lake effect snowfall begins to become better organized tomorrow, especially in the afternoon and evening. Steady snows will be best Wednesday Night and into Thursday Morning, before tapering off by Thursday Night. Here is how the maps look at best
After that, the possible Nor’easter for this Saturday is next up. Maybe. This storm will be hitting the southeast with snow on Friday (for the first time in 3 years here in South Carolina), then heading up the coast on Saturday. What happens when it gets up the coast I have no idea. Usually with MILLER A storms, the best chance of seeing the better snows from it would range from the Catskills to the Hudson Valley and the Capital Region. Less snows would be expected from the Southern Tier to Central NY, the Tug Hill and the Adirondacks. At this point in time, it looks like all of the storminess and accumulating snowfalls will stay away from Upstate NY and off the coast of the Northeast. However, with the decent west to west northwest flow behind that system, there may be additional lake effect to talk about. Still several days away.
Temperatures will continue to run BELOW NORMAL across not just Upstate NY but most areas east of the Rockies. This is true in the 6-10 day but also in the 8-14 day as well. This means highs in the teens and 20s. Lows from a little below zero up north, to the single digits and low teens in the lower elevations. All I can say is this: If you are in a part of the state that has enough snow to ride on… if you are in a part of the state that will get more snow to ride on in the coming days…
GET OUT AND ENJOY IT! We have not had a winter like this in a very long time to write about. Thank you for letting us write about it to you and for you guys being there for us!
