The next snowfall is coming. Tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow night and tapering off on the morning of Christmas Eve. It will be a clipper and it will be state wide. It should be enough to ensure everyone (or almost everyone) has their first White Christmas in years! Going back to 2018 for some!
It’s cold today. Very cold. Many locations this morning hit below zero for the first time this year. For some, it could be since 2022 the first time they have hit zero! It has been that warm around Upstate Snow land. Which is probably the reason when we get snows, the “ride now” alarms are going full tilt because if you wait a few days, 40s, 50s, and rain, even in December, January and February, are not far behind and most of that powder gets wiped out. That’s not the scenario over us. At least not yet. Here is how it is going to play out.
CLIPPER
After a sunny and cold Sunday followed by a very cold night with most locations zero to -10 tonight, Monday will be a better day. Temperatures will rise into the 20s. But a quick increase in the clouds will be seen from west to east during the day. Before nightfall, snow should develop over Western NY. Monday Night, snow overspreads all of Upstate NY. This is definitely a time to slow down and use extra caution. A few areas will only see a dusting to an inch or two, however, a majority of Upstate NY will see at least 2″ of snow by the morning of Christmas Eve. Some areas could see as much as 4 or 5 inches of snow. Localized areas could get to a half foot, but not enough for me to put on the map. Yet.
WHITE CHRISTMAS!
The first White Christmas since 2022 for many, and since 2018 for nearly all of Upstate NY is looking like it will definitely happen. I am so so happy this has taken place! In 2020 we had tons of snow, then the Christmas Eve Massacre of 2020 blew through with temperatures in the 50s and near record rainfall, wiping out the snow pack in a day. Literally. To where so many people missed out on a White Christmas. Not this year.
ABOVE NORMAL BUT NOT BLOW TORCH. YET.
It creeps more above normal with temperatures in the 30s during the day and 20s at night after Christmas. Afternoon highs by next weekend hit the 40s. At least it will not be in the 50s. It is still definitely above normal. With the fact everyone and their grandmother will want to ride whatever trails are open in Upstate NY, which is the Adirondacks, Tug Hill and North Country, and with little snow cover we do have which is in inches more than in feet, things will wear down quickly. Please look at the reports daily. Please carefully consider them. Please don’t be that guy that _______. Amen?
