Good morning. Or whatever it is when you see this.
The following above is snowfall from a clipper system which goes by Friday and into early Saturday. Nearly all locations in Upstate NY should receive at least 1″ of snow. Some areas could receive up to 4″ of snow. There is a chance for lake effect to add to some of these totals, but with shifting wind directions and an arctic high nearby, that is not likely. That is too bad considering the lakes are still warm for this time of year, although with the cold December we have had so far, it is still near to above normal.
BITTER COLD THIS WEEKEND
These are actual air temperatures this weekend. Not wind chills. Below zero! Especially north of the Thruway. That air will be around for a few days. But Sunday looks to be the worst of the days. Highs on Sunday don’t get out of the teens.
CHRISTMAS
Christmas is looking like a mix of snow and rain. It starts as snow on Christmas Eve then changes to rain for Christmas Day. Temperatures will recover to around normal then, which is about 32 degrees in the Mohawk Valley and the lower elevations of Upstate NY.
BEYOND CHRISTMAS TO THE NEW YEAR
This is what we mentioned yesterday. You don’t want to see this. Our thermometer will be off to the races. Most if not all of the snow cover across Upstate NY will be melted away. As we mentioned, since 2017, we have not had the chance to ride between Christmas and New Year’s. This is the longest consecutive streak we remember in our lifetimes. By far.
JANUARY?
This we don’t want to get into either. There are a ton of people going it’s gonna snow and turn brutally cold! Could it? It’s January. It could. It also could just as easily continue in the 40s and 50s and no snow to be found anywhere. Until we get within a weeks time, I will not say with much certainty. But those with some degree of certainty, have forecasted that January should be a little above normal across Upstate NY for January 2025. Whether or not this happens, is anyone’s guess. Who knows.
Thanks for visiting Upstate Snow. The reports over the holidays, especially with the coming warmth and melting snow on and after Christmas means we will probably not be updating daily. I hate this during snowmobile season. But all I know is this: Sometimes you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.
