No snow through tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow night and Thursday morning is a different story.
Good morning! It’s above freezing across a lot of Upstate New York this morning. Today will be the warmest day with temperatures in the mid to upper 40’s. That’s 10-15 degrees above normal for this time of year. There are a few rain showers around Central NY that will hang around through this evening. Washout? Nope. Not even close. Just a few showers and sprinkles here and there. Really, nothing gets going until later Wednesday afternoon and in particular, Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
THE NEXT STORM SYSTEM
This one is decent. It is not nothing. It will not produce widespread several inches of accumulation either. But it will however be enough to whiten the ground back up again, especially in the lower elevations where the snow is lacking. In the higher elevations where there is already snow on the ground, we will get some additional snow. Lower elevations should see a dusting to 2″. Higher elevations, especially 1000′ and higher should count on more like 2-4 inches. Only in the Tug Hill did I mention snowfall amounts exceeding 4″. Here we could see up to 6-8 inches of snow. This is out of here Thursday morning and definitely by Thursday afternoon.
THEN COMES THE COLD
Then after that heading into this weekend and early next week, the coldest air of the 2024-25 winter season comes crashing on through. It doesn’t happen on Thursday or on Friday (when some more light snow accumulations are expected) but particularly this weekend into early next week. As we approach Christmas 2024. It will be COLD! How cold? How about BELOW ZERO COLD! That is pretty much a guarantee in areas outside the lower elevations this weekend and into early next week.
AFTER CHRISTMAS?
Trust me. You do not want to know. Just fugedabouodit! Period. End of story. Good night. There is nothing else to say here. If I go into the temperatures and everything that is supposed to happen after Christmas and going into 2025, you will literally be sick. The warmth that will be coming should wipe out all of Upstate NY’s snow. Even the deep snows up on the Tug Hill and Adirondacks. So do me a favor. Savor this time. Enjoy every second of this time. I hate to say this is how snowmobile seasons are going, but it has been 7 years since we have seen truly cold Christmas, New Years, and January. This year will not change that.
