Good morning and welcome to DAY 1 of RIDING in the North Country, Adirondacks and select areas of the Tug Hill! And it just so happens we have a little something additional for you here. In the medium range models early to mid last week when this pattern change was shown, it was to be all rain and much warmer. As each run has come in, it gets a degree or two cooler. Getting to this past weekend, it was borderline snow. Now, we have actual snow here. With the rains moving in across Upstate NY this afternoon and tonight, here in the North Country and Adirondacks, we actually have some minor accumulations of SNOW!
Then we shall see a break most of Tuesday. Initially, as recently as yesterday, it didn’t look like this. It looked like it would rain all day. However the latest high resolution models have significantly backed off of this idea. They have really put most of the load into tomorrow night and Wednesday. What we will call:
PART 2
This part of the storm is the warmest part of the storm with the heaviest rains. Now we were looking at 1-2 inches of rain with localized amounts to 3″ through Wednesday PM. That grand total amount has come down. It is still more than high for a major impact on the snowpack that is out there and that may be rideable, but not as devastating as what was shown even a day ago. Still, expect major impacts on the snowpack that is out there.
WHAT IS OUT THERE NOW?
Here is the latest snowpack for Upstate NY. You can see the most snowfall is up in the north country and Adirondacks, where it belongs! And since this rain and warmth is looking a touch less bad than yesterday, the impacts will still be significant but not as bad as what we were thinking yesterday.
We won’t even talk about after that. A few cold days, then next week the long warmup and gradual meltdown. There is no changes in the long term at this time. If there is any changes, we will let you know.
