I have no idea where to begin. I-90 is shutdown from Buffalo to Cleveland. Travel is impossible through these lake effect snow bands. There is feet of snow already in the most intense bands (over 30 inches in parts of Chautauqua County ALREADY). And this event is just getting started. Here is my additional call:
For the next 48 hours or so, at least 36-48 hours, these intense lake effect bands will continue to do damage unlike anything I have seen in my time here at Upstate Snow. Even the November 2014 event, this will rival, if not beat. Why? Because we have just gotten into the cold air. And the lakes are near record warm, if not record warm for this time of year.
In general, lakes are running within a few degrees of 50! For late November into early December, that is STEAMING. South of Buffalo, Watertown area, along Lake Erie and upwind of that into Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and southern Erie, the Tug Hill, it’s nice knowing you! But as we head into Sunday Night and into Monday, a change in the air flow pattern is imminent.
NEXT WEEK
The lake snow bands move to the south and west and weaken on Monday. They will not die out. Just weaken. Then Wednesday and Thursday, they get going again. How long they will hit there and how much snow will hit there is still anybody’s guess. Then more of a west to WNW flow instead of a WSW flow (like this weekend). No problem on Temperatures. We are way colder than we need to be. The only question is historically, where does this lake effect event end up? I am telling you that triple digit lake effect snow totals are not out of the question for the hardest hit areas. Even here where these snows fly hard, that is very rare. This “triple digit” snow total possibility is not over the next few days but more over the next week to 10 days. Because we are locked into the cold. Period. Through the first half of December.
I will have more as I see it. Oh my word!
