Good morning! AND HELLO SNOW IN UPSTATE NY! Wow… the way Novembers have gone lately I was beginning to wonder if it would EVER snow again in November. At times over the last 35 years, November has proven to be a feast or famine month for snow. Since 2018, don’t even ask. This is the best snow Upstate NY has seen SINCE 2018.
HOW DID MY FORECAST GO SO FAR?
Most of it was good but some of it I was low on. I nailed the dusting to 2″ in the lower elevations as nearly every lower elevation point recorded its first snow of this season. Higher up is a different story. My biggest miss is over the Binghamton area and areas south of Syracuse. My 2-5 inches there is going low. Many spots are between 6-12 inches, particularly in the Catskills and the eastern Southern Tier. Tens of thousands are out of power. That will be an issue over the next few days.
WHAT IS HAPPENING THROUGH THE WEEKEND?
The storm will gradually weaken by tonight and steadier snows will taper off. We catch somewhat off a break tomorrow but later in the afternoon, through Saturday Night and into Sunday, then next wave wraps in from New England. This will provide some minor additional accumulations for Upstate NY, particularly in the Southern Tier, Catskills and in parts of Eastern NY
A BREAK EARLY NEXT WEEK
A lot of this snow will have a chance to melt, especially Monday, as our old friend THE SUN returns and highs reach the 40s in the higher elevations with 50+ down low. That break will not last long though.
THANKSGIVING TURNING COLDER WITH SNOW LIKELY RETURNING
The pattern turns colder again with rain showers mixing with snow showers Wednesday and into Thanksgiving Day. Temperatures will drop by about 10 degrees if not more. The best chances for snow, again, will be the higher elevations above 1000′
THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND AND BEYOND
Temperatures will run below normal for the 6-10 and the 8-14 day ranges. This puts us almost to the first weekend of December. With the time of year we are getting into, and with below normal temperatures forecasted, this means a much higher chance for snow, especially in the higher elevations. This is a great thing for those whom have not had December rides lately. 2018 was amazing. 2019 was OK. 2020 was at first great then turned into the Christmas Day Massacre of 2020. The last three years we have had NOTHING except all kinds of blowtorch weather and record highs. Please pray that this year is DIFFERENT!
That’s our report for today!
