Want to know why there hasn’t been anything over the last week? Record highs! And overall nothing else to talk about weather wise besides temperatures WAY above normal. When your normal temperatures are in the 40s, you are talking more like 50s and 60s. Even 70s! That’s not even close to snowmobile weather.
Getting into this time of year, snowmobile weather is 20s and 30s during the day and teens at night. This is possible. Not every year but it is possible. The last time we saw this was in 2018. November 2018 was the last good November we had. We enjoyed way above normal snowfall and the Adirondack lakes started freezing up by Thanksgiving! Nothing even remotely close to that this year.
We will cool off to around normal the next few days, with the chance at some snow showers or flurries over the North Country and Adirondacks tonight (no accumulation expected at this time) then an extended period of something we don’t see much of in November: SUN! Several days of at least a mix of clouds and sun to partly sunny skies through next weekend. Highs will be in the 40s and 50s. Lows will be below freezing. Hey, at least that is a start!
So when will the next storm with snow hit? You know I can look out 2 weeks here. But you know that when I reach beyond 7 days I get into “fantasy land”. “The plane the plane!!!”. I don’t want to do that to you. That is not what I am here for.
On Friday, I will have a revision to my Winter Weather Forecast. Basically, unless I see changes over the next 4 days on the 6-10 and the 8-14 day range outlooks, there will be revisions to the outlook. There must be. When you start off with zeroes, you have to work that much harder to make it up over the rest of the season. The way winters are going now… don’t count on it.
