I am still here!!!
Good morning Upstate Snow Nation! It has been 15 days since I last saw you guys. You have been missed! And it shall be several more days at least before I see you again. But in the meantime HELLO! How are you? And I hope and pray you are all well!
For the next seven days, there is hardly any snow. Some light snows later today through tomorrow of a dusting to an inch or two at most, but after that, for the first time in months, an extended period of sunshine awaits!!! Along with above freezing temperatures by day and below freezing at night. Great Maple Syrup Weather! 2-4 weeks in advance!
Getting beyond the 7-10 days, into mid to late February, strong signals of the back 9 of winter are showing up! It definitely appears as though winter is not done. Yet. You can read more about it here: https://ilsnow.com/2024/02/01/into-february/
Into March? Who knows! The last time we had an El Nino like this was 1998. The last 10 days of March we were in the 70s and 80s! We even tied our all time record of 86! Obviously we don’t want that to happen, but the fact that trail reports come to an end earlier in March as opposed to April seems to be on par here.
So this is how I am going to play it: It’s Maple Syrup Season… until I see major changes otherwise. Once the coming colder air, at least it should be, for middle to end of February comes about, then we turn back on the daily updates and get things going again!
