Welcome to MLK Day!
We still have lake effect snow going on that had started on Saturday. I had figured, especially on yesterday morning’s update that there would not be a complete falloff of these localized heavy snowfalls downwind of Lake Erie and downwind of Lake Ontario. Indeed this is the case.
So for the next snowfall accumulation map we will have to account for more on these WSW to SW winds for today. The good news is that it should not be anywhere near as bad around Buffalo, especially later today. 4:30 PM is Primetime in Orchard Park as the Bills take on the Steelers. GO BILLS!
Later tonight and into tomorrow AM, a general storm system from the Tennessee Valley to the Virginia’s and the Mid-Atlantic will start to move its moisture up into Upstate NY. This will be a widespread, general, and light snowfall for the entire state, hence why the entire Upstate is covered by at least a trace to 2″ on the map. Of course, you have to figure, more WSW to SW winds nailing areas downwind of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Here accumulations will be more and in localized areas, substantially more.
By Wednesday, we get a break from the action with snowfalls, including lake effect being much less. I did not say it would be zero, I just said it would be a lot less. I will have a lot more idea on a lot less tomorrow. The next storm system after that invades starting late Thursday but especially into Friday with another light accumulation of snow. After that storm goes by heading into next weekend, yet another round of potentially heavy lake effect snows are possible. With that being 5-7 days away, we won’t go too much to the mat on that right now other than just to say: Lookout. Something may be coming.
Looking ahead to next week, a pattern shift is becoming more and more likely with moderating temperatures. Above freezing, for the first time in over a week will be likely. I will continue to follow this and have more for you tomorrow on the Trail Talk Tuesday report. That report shall be the best one we have yet seen so far this season.
Take care!
