Well it’s about that time. It’s time for the first snowfall forecast map of the 2023-24 season!
These maps you will see on and off for the next 6 months. Anytime any snow threatens any part of Upstate NY… we will have it here. Even in April and May when everyone, including you regular riders, are about #$%#@! with that.
So the snows won’t develop until around midday and into the afternoon across the Tug Hill and the Adirondacks. Because the elevations are a little higher here, and the snowfall may last longer into the late afternoon and evening hours, I have given this area the best chance of seeing up to an inch of snow by Monday morning. But don’t blink. With highs well into the 40s to near 50 tomorrow with sunshine increasing during the day, that snow will be gone quickly. So again, don’t blink!
To the riders south of the Mohawk Valley into the Southern Tier and even into parts of Western NY (only the highest elevations there), just enough to cover the ground. If that. It should not meet or exceed one inch south of I-90 even in the higher elevations. But to the north with more moisture and cooler air to work with, up to an inch can be expected.
I normally don’t go into this much detail with such little snow. But since it’s October. And since I need to stretch my muscles again.
A frost and freeze is likely for a lot of Upstate NY tomorrow night and into Tuesday morning with lows near to below freezing across much of Upstate NY. But then, that’s where this cold blast ends. For now.
For the rest of Tuesday, well into the 50s during the day with 60+ in the lower elevations. Wednesday and Thursday: Don’t even look. 70+ in the lower elevations! Rain begins to move back in… just in time… for an 8th weekend in a row for Upstate NY but with cooler temperatures coming.
Next week (10/29 to 11/4) the temperatures will be going down again. And even though after this cooldown and brief snow we warm back up again… it will cool on down again for Halloween into the first days of November. With a much better chance for cooler weather and a possibility of another snowfall then. Since we are still 8-14 days out on that yet… still way too far out to comment on what we could see.
But just know where we stand. And it’s a lot better than we’ve stood the last 5 winters. That alone should have you smiling today.
