OK so it has been almost a week. The weather has been on fire. Literally. Yesterday was one of the hottest October days in Upstate NY history. A few locations even touched 90 which given it’s October, is an extreme feat! So now that we have had several days of hot weather with record temperatures, more like early July than early October, what’s next???
Cooldown. The BIG cooldown. It’s coming and it’s coming soon.
Simply put, If you are reading this Thursday afternoon/evening or even Friday morning, do yourself a favor and GET OUT AND ENJOY IT! Given what I am seeing here, this is it. Once the rains move in Friday afternoon/evening, we have a washout of a Columbus Day Weekend with inches of rain likely across most of Upstate NY. With temperatures taking a tumble. 70s still tomorrow. 60s Saturday. 50s Sunday. And possibly not out of the 40s on Columbus Day??? Yep. Welcome to October in Upstate NY. October is like March or April. It can be in the 80s. Or the 20s with heavy snow.
So what happens after Columbus Day? Fall Foliage weather takes over with leaves quickly approaching peak across most of Upstate NY outside the Adirondacks and Catskills. It’s just the move of the season. And reminding us how much closer we are to the first flakes, the first inch and the first snow of the season. But it won’t be next week. If anything, as long as this weather hangs on to us most of next week, it will eventually break and temps will return possibly to the 60s by end of next week. After 85-90 yesterday? Yikes!
Keep an eye on the second half of October, especially the last full week of October. It could bum out and be warm… but I’ve got a feeling something may be coming. I’m not 100% on this. But I’m just saying we are way overdue for some October snow. I’m not saying it to increase clicks: Just telling out what I know.
