It’s the final countdown! Or is it??? All I can tell you is if you want to ride longer distances and between many clubs, especially between the Tug Hill and the Adirondacks… If you are reading this and have not made plans to get out… I can’t help you! Tons of folks are out there riding today and will ride tomorrow. I expect Saturday to be a BIG RIDE DAY, especially with what is coming. Sunday SUNDAY… oh my word SUNDAY…
Yep. We’re screwed big time. Once temps get above freezing Saturday PM they will be above freezing a good 48 hours. I know the amount of snow we’ve had this week, especially north of the Thruway has been more than expected, things have frozen back down again, lakes have somewhat stabilized, and it’s slowly creeping back towards mid-season conditions with very cold temps today… It’s all going to get undone and FAST. Sunday with warm winds, rain, high dewpoints will eat the snow like PAC MAN. Any areas that are just open and borderline, you’re going down. Tug Hill connection – GONE. We’ll be down to just Tug Hill and just limited parts of the Adirondacks and North Country after this goes through. And it looks like die hard season has… begu… oh…. wait… what… really???
Rain changes to snow Monday PM into Tuesday AM. There are still a lot of details to be worked out on this. It’s a very close call. It could work out good, and stop the bleeding, it may not. I’ll say SUNDAY I’ll put out the snow map forecast for this one. It may be a band aid on an open wound at that point but we’ll see….
Then later in the week, temps closer to normal. The warmth that looked like it would return… not so much now. The storm track resets to the southeast with that Monday PM/Tuesday AM storm, then that opens the door to Thursday and next Saturday. Two decent possibilities for snow. It’s still day 7-9 stuff, and a lot of temperature ups and downs to consider, but all I can tell you is that ALL ensembles are screaming west warm, east cold, and the weather pattern will be FAVORABLE for additional cold and snow late next week into the middle of March. Will it be enough to ride on? Maybe. Maybe not. Depends on where you are. I have no crystal ball that will tell you on X day you’ll get X and trails will open. Way too many factors. All I am saying, clearly, for now is this: The wipeout thaw Sunday and Monday might still plunge us to Die Hard season. Or we may get a second wind. Jury is still out. Do the snow dance!
