Not even a hint…
For the next 10 days and beyond, it will remain squarely ABOVE NORMAL for all of Upstate NY… and the Northeast… and Southeastern Canada… and the eastern half of the country… the eastern half of North America.
Not even a hint… yet…
It is still WAY EARLY. Like 6-8 weeks too early. Just to put into perspective here, it’s October 21st the average date of first snowfall for Utica, NY. A week to 10 days earlier up north, closer to Halloween in downstate NY, but the numbers are there. That is just first flakes. First inch of snow is VETERANS DAY, which I reckon, is 38 days from now. Thanksgiving is 52 days from today and that is close to the first “three inch” snowfall. December gets into it. It can hold up on the Adirondacks and Tug Hill after the first week of November, if it is heavy enough, and some years, even recently, it has. Take 2018-19 for example. 6-12 inches of snow November 7-9 up in the Adirondacks and Tug Hill, especially inside the Adirondack park… and it stayed on the ground from that point UNTIL APRIL 2019. Never lost the pack at all in those spots. Came close, but never did.
Last two years have been touchy. Not as much snow, much stronger thaws, thank God for the 4-6 weeks of full on winter we have gotten in these last two seasons that keep us hungry for more. And here we are. Waiting.
It’s gonna be awhile. Enjoy colorful October! And just remember this… the big warmth we have had this summer and fall means one thing: A VERY WARM LAKE ONTARIO AND LAKE ERIE TO PLAY WITH WHEN THE COLD DOES EVENTUALLY COME. And it will. Just a friendly reminder from your Meteorologist that says I’m here, I’m awake, and when it starts coming… I’ll be on it!
