Clouds and snow showers will continue for the next few days. For now the heavy lake effect is tapering off. Locally you may see a few additional inches, especially in persistent squalls. Like yesterday, breaks of sun are in the offing, especially this afternoon. Could be a nice sunset!
Tonight it will be clear at first allowing temps to fall into the teens, single digits N of the Thruway. This will help to freeze things down but still there will be water hazards out there on the trails despite the new snow. Clouds quickly increase after midnight and Thursday morning… our next clipper is here!
On Thursday a general dusting to 2 inches is possible across a good portion of Upstate NY. A few could squeeze out more than 2-3 inches, but a majority of folks will see anywhere from a dusting to an inch or two. Additional snow showers and lake effect will continue through Friday, especially after our strong cold front comes through.
This weekend continues to look great! Clouds mixed with sun on Saturday. Temps in the teens to around 20 by day, most falling back to -5 to +5 overnight. That will be great for the groomers. Repeat for Sunday. If you are looking to ride by moonlight, Saturday night will be a great opportunity for that! As usual, watch for heavy traffic, even at night, especially in popular riding areas. Sunday will feature a good amount of sunshine with temps in the teens to around 20. Enjoy it! Sunday night is also a good moonlight riding opportunity.
Next week temperatures will remain cold with chances for light snow. No big storms and/or setups for heavy lake effect snow foreseen as of this time.
Don’t count on this pattern change lasting into February. If you want to ride the sleds, CARPE DIEM. Unsure how long this pattern will last. My confidence only goes out about 10 days at this time, into the last weekend of January.
Before I go, two things. PODCASTS ARE BACK!
Here is the link to my latest episode of the Trail Talk Podcast. Usually it’s done on #trailtalktuesday, but I have been off schedule. This one is overdue.
Our other podcast series, GUIDE TO YOUR RIDE, will be up late Thursday Night. For those not familiar, this is done with Chris Rinck, President of the Southern Tug Hill Sno-Riders. Both he and I are working on getting the latest word direct from clubs all across Upstate NY, and will give you the latest information Thursday night to help you plan your rides for Friday, the weekend and into next week. This podcast series will continue weekly on Wednesdays or Thursdays while trails remain open and rideable through the rest of the season.
Both Trail Talk and Guide to Your Ride are available directly here on Upstate Snow, and are available through Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
Thank you!
