Good evening,
Quiet weather will dominate tonight through Sunday. Head outside later, possibly catch a glimpse at the northern lights tonight!
A brief warm-up will occur Sunday ahead of a cold front. Look for temps in the upper 40s to mid 50s south of the Thruway, with lower 40s north. A cold front will drop northwest to southeast across the state very early Monday, and return us to below-normal temperatures. Some snow showers are likely to occur with the passage of the front during the pre-dawn hours, but this isn’t going to amount to much of anything. High pressure settles in later Monday and will dominate our weather through much of the work week. In fact, we may remain precipitation-free through late Friday.
Temperatures will dip below normal Monday and Tuesday… generally upper 20s in the North Country to the upper 30s elsewhere. Warmer temps arrive Wednesday (seasonal norms). MUCH warmer temperatures will pump across the state Thursday and Friday… models are pointing at temps into the 60s for the Fingerlakes and the lake plains on Thursday, with widespread 50s just about everywhere else outside of the Adirondacks. But that’s nothing compared to what modeling is showing by next Friday… temps in the upper 60s to around 70 for the Fingerlakes and lake plains, upper 50s to mid 60s outside of the Adirondacks.
Our next chance for rain comes late Friday or Friday night into Saturday as a cold front moves across the state. While things will cool down behind this front, most of the modeling indicates that…. after early Thursday morning… we will coast into the first week of April without temps dipping below freezing.
Aside from some scattered snow showers during the pre-dawn hours on Monday, no new snow is expected this week. Ride while you can over the Tug and in the Adirondacks—but be careful.
