Good evening everyone, a quick post here. Winter Weather Advisories are up for portions of the Cats and Daks late tonight into early Saturday. A large storm system will continue to move north along the coast. Mainly rain is expected for the Upstate but higher elevations will see mixed precipitation and snow tonight. Precip will transition back to all rain on Saturday.
There is the chance for a minimal glazing of freezing rain in some areas overnight tonight.
As for snow, models vary considerably, because why not. The GFS goes a little overboard painting as much as 6 inches of snow in portions of the higher elevations in both the Catskills and Adirondacks. The Euro says no, that’s not realistic, going with generally 3 inches or less, primarily in the Catskills.
We’re inclined to “split the difference.” We’re going with a trace to 2 inches for the higher elevations of the Catskills and Adirondacks. There might be a few isolated 3-inch amounts in the absolute highest elevations, but we think those are going to be few-and-far between.
Winter Weather Advisories have been posted for the areas expected to receive mixed precip / snow overnight.
So a quick taste of winter to get you in the mood. Unfortunately, aside from the chance of a few snow showers in some areas Monday night/early Tuesday, it looks like that’s it for snow chances for the foreseeable future.
